This book retraces the history of the town of Nasium, located 30km east of Bar-le-Duc, in the area taking in the communities of Naix-aux-Forges, Boviolles and Saint-Amand-sur-Ornain. To begin with, it was just its name that was known, courtesy of the geographer Ptolémée who, in the 2nd century, called the agglomeration the “town of the Leuci” [a Gallic tribe]. This book is the result of contributions from 14 professional and volunteer researchers who, by examining the abundance of often unusual and sometimes unique objects preserved in public collections, have succeeded in establishing the first compendium of knowledge. The preservation condition and quality of its collections make Nasium a major site for understanding the urban phenomenon in northern Gaul.
