This work was published to mark the De soie et d’or textiles sacrés en Meuse XVIIe-XIXe siècles exhibition, organised by the Meuse Museums Conservation department, in partnership with the Meuse Antiquities and Objets d’Art Conservation team and held at the St Mihiel Museum of Sacred Art in 2004 and 2005.

For more than 30 years, the Meuse Antiquities and Objets d’Art Conservation department, the Lorraine Regional Register Service and the Meuse Museums Conservation department have worked to list and preserve a considerable number of liturgical ornaments from the region. The art Trésor at Verdun Cathedral and the St Mihiel Museum of Sacred Art provide safe locations where this heritage can be kept. It was important for the public to be able to discover or rediscover these sacred materials devoted to the glory of divine worship.
